Proposal for 505 Class
I have in mind 3 proposals for my senior project:
Design Within Reach Project, Dr. June Fisher. (Health and Well-being Service System Designs/Furniture Systems/Space Planning)
Problem: Dr. Fisher is an older adult who increasingly finds that items in her
upper
kitchen and closet shelves are now out of her reach. Currently available
step stool
solutions do not meet her needs: some are too tall; others have a
stepping area that is too small, and most do not have handholds to provide
needed balance and stability during reaching. Finally, many step stools are
heavy and bulky, making them difficult to
move and position.
Purpose: to create a specialized step stool for older adults like Dr. Fisher,
addressing their challenges of reaching high shelves. The step stool will have
an adjustable height, secure stepping area, and handholds for stability. It
aims to be lightweight and easy to move while improving independence and
convenience for users.
2. Deep Tissue Massager (Health and Well-being Service System Designs)
Problem Statement: The existing
challenge revolves around developing an advanced deep tissue massager device
that effectively targets and alleviates muscle tension and discomfort. Current
massage solutions often lack the ability to penetrate deeply into muscle
layers, resulting in limited relief for individuals suffering from chronic
muscle pain, post-exercise soreness, or muscular injuries. Traditional
massagers, such as handheld devices or manual techniques, frequently fall short
in providing the necessary depth and intensity required to release tension and
promote muscle recovery.
Purpose: to create an innovative
deep tissue massager device that combines advanced motorized technology with
ergonomic design, offering a comprehensive solution for deep muscle therapy.
This device should be capable of delivering high-frequency vibrations or
percussive motions that penetrate through superficial layers and reach deep
muscle tissues. The solution should be versatile enough to cater to various
muscle groups across the body, adapting to different levels of pressure and comfort
preferences.
3. Stopwatch, Time Data Collector (Information Design/Exhibits/Displays/Packaging Systems. Instructional Technology & Development)
Problem Statement: The challenge at
hand is to develop a clock stopwatch tailored to meet the unique needs of
designers, allowing them to accurately and efficiently track the time spent on
individual projects while seamlessly managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Current time-tracking solutions often lack the specificity required by
designers, failing to provide a user-friendly and comprehensive platform for
collecting precise project data. Designers require a tool that not only records
their working hours but also seamlessly integrates with their creative
workflow, enhancing productivity and facilitating data-driven decision-making.
Purpose: to design an innovative clock
stopwatch that caters to the dynamic nature of design projects. This stopwatch
should feature customizable project profiles, enabling designers to easily
switch between different projects and allocate their working hours accurately.
The solution should be equipped with intuitive interfaces, allowing designers
to initiate and pause timers effortlessly, and it should automatically capture
relevant metadata such as project names, dates, and project-specific notes.
After going through the justification, introduction, researching about the users and the beneficiaries, what to take in consideration and what kind of environments does each fit in...
I decided to go with the deep tissue proposal since I considered myself as an athlete and I have been through pain/injury relief and in my jiu jitsu community, I have connection with other people that have this problem and also go through experts for help.
This is also a problem that I would like to learn more about.
